Real Time Control Optimization

Buffalo Sewer Authority (BSA) was facing an expensive long-term control plan. The utility knew it had storage capacity in its massive sewers, if properly controlled. BSA hired EmNet to find and optimize that storage.

EmNet is working with BSA’s engineering and consulting team to design and implement in-line storage using Real Time Control at 16 sites throughout the City.

EmNet was engaged by the City of Buffalo to find viable alternatives to the capital investment plan. EmNet applied their innovative modeling capabilities to the city’s sewer network. The results yielded sites capable of handling additional storage when control gates were installed. Development of the sites has yielded over $100 million worth of savings in Buffalo’s Long Term Control Plan (LTCP) to date.

The Power of Emnet

  • 16 in-line storage sites

  • Over $100 million in LTCP savings

  • Deployment of the first four sites is underway
